Beluga

Beluga is a model for Unreal Tournament 2003. He's made of 2044 triangles, which is well into the low-end of models for UT2003, but I think I used pretty much exactly the right amount for the character and he's pretty well-shaped. It is a bit odd that he's, y'know, a whale in pants (and not even a Beluga whale!), but I wanted to do something pretty strange, the typical Unreal models are pretty uninteresting. Because of his unique body shape (and tail too) I had to animate him entirely by myself rather than using the default animations, which was quite time consuming. It was worth it though, because I think he looks quite cool in the game. There are a lot of little issues here and there (the leg deformation isn't very good, in particular) but I learned a lot while working on him, and that's the important thing. I made a portrait illustration for him (right) which I'm quite pleased with, although I didn't really convey the surface of his head exactly the same way, it's a bit too flat. It does its job though, so I'm pretty pleased with it. Click here to download if you'd like to give him a spin.
